In an age of fear and terrorism, it takes a lot of moxxy to urge that we’re better off erasing the world’s borders.

Some of the world’s most destitute people could still have dangerous elements among them. If you open the door, will poor people balkanize the country? Will crime increase? Will they assimilate? Will they take jobs away from natives?

Alex Tabarrok argues that, whatever your concerns, it would be worth it. Through open immigration between the West and the rest, you can improve the lot of millions almost immediately–not just the lives of those who might land on our shores, but the lives of those in the host country.

Tabarrok is an economist, but his economics manages to be humane and his logic is difficult to argue against. He deserves a hearing.
